England Surfers Squad Selection Policy 2018
ISA World Surfing Games, Japan.
This document has been created to outline the process of selection for the Team England programme during 2018. The squad management team have devised the following criteria for automatic selection into the selection squad associated with the programme for 2018 ISA World Surfing Games in Japan (September).
Selection for the 2018 squad has been determined based on the subsequent criteria.
- Automatic squad selection for all representatives of Team England 2017 Open at the ISA World Surfing Games in France.
- The four highest ranked male & two highest ranked female English surfers on the WSL international ranking 2017 season.
- The two highest ranked male & one highest ranked female English surfers on the WSL European rankings 2017 season.
- The two highest ranked male & one highest ranked female English surfers at the end of the UKPSA tour 2017.
- All finalists (top 4) from the Open and Women’s division at the 2017 English National Surf Championship.
- Automatic squad selection (where applicable) for those Team England Juniors who have now moved up to the open division.
The winners of the English Nationals 2018 (Open and Women’s division) will automatically earn themselves a place within the selection squad, and will therefore become eligible for selection for the ISA World Surfing Team England.
Additional wildcard applications will be accepted up until Sunday 11th March 2018 at 5pm for all divisions. Wildcard applicants will need to submit video footage (Online edits accepted) of no older than six months, accompanied with national / international competition results and a personal statement of no longer than 300 words. This will need to be submitted via email to team@surfingengland.org. Successful wildcard applicants will be announced publicly on Wednesday 14th March.
NB: Where a surfer double or more qualifies from the selection criteria the next applicable surfer in that selection criteria will be chosen.
All surfers must qualify to represent the English team by fulfilling the ‘Eligibility Process’ outlined in the ‘Eligibility Policy’

Sunday March 4th – ‘Open’ Division Squad announced
Sunday March 11th – Wildcard Applicant deadline.
Wednesday March 14th – Successful Wildcard Applicants informed.
Monday 2nd April – Deadline for Surfers to confirm eligibility for Team selection. (Signed documents)
Wednesday May 21st – Private announcement of the team for ISA World Games, Japan to be delivered.
Wednesday May 28th – Public announcement of the team for ISA World Games, Japan to be announced.
