This year we hope to see two international events requiring team selection in SUP Surf, Race and Prone paddle board disciplines.
ESF EUROSUP Peniche, Portugal 14th – 22nd October
ISA World SUP and Paddleboard Championship TBC
For the ISA Worlds, selection will be managed via GB Surfing, see policy here. The ISA World SUP has not yet been confirmed but we hope to see this event on the 2023 calendar. It is GB Surfing who must determine agreement with athletes on any budget/entries/kit etc for this contest.
For Eurosurf, this event will be Team England, and requires the following athletes:
Team England selection will be a multi venue selection process relevant to each discipline, surf and the race board disciplines of sprint, technical and distance (this includes prone and SUP). Board size selection will be from 14 ft class.
17th June, Fistral Beach, Newquay, UK – SUP Surf event page here.
8th – 9th July, Gylly Beach, Falmouth, UK – Sprint, Tech, Distance event page here.
Paddlers must be in a position to self-finance entry and travel to each event. Paddlers must provide proof of travel insurance (including competition insurance) prior to departure. Absence of evidence will preclude travel with the team to the event.
Team members, in the absence of a team manager, must be self-regulating and organise relevant logistics e.g., travel accommodation etc.
Athletes must be English residents and not have competed for another Nation in the previous 12 months. English nationality is defined by Surfing England / ISA
Selection Process
For Team England, the selection policy will follow parallels to GB surfing policy for the British SUP team.
Surf: The 1st and 2nd placed ENGLISH athletes in the Surfing England Stand up Paddleboard Surfing Championships. In the event these athletes are unable to attend, the next placed athlete will be asked to fill quota, and so on, until the placed are filled.
Sprint / Technical / Distance: The 1st and 2nd placed ENGLISH athletes in the Gylly Beach contest. In the event these athletes are unable to attend, the next placed athlete will be asked to fill quota, and so on, until the placed are filled.
Team Selection results will be posted on Surfing England website and social media.
