English Surf Coach


Surfing England and the ISA (International Surf Association) have teamed up to bring you the most comprehensive and up to date Surf Coach Qualification available. Together we aim to ensure safe and successful surf coaching, whilst encouraging progression for all levels of ability.

Surfing England’s recognised qualification for Surf coaching in England is the ISA/Surfing England Surf Coach Level 1 award which allows you to seek employment at hundreds of surf schools in England and in countries all over the world. The course covers all aspects of surf education including surf safety, surfing & coaching techniques along with group management. Successful trainees go on to work as professional surf coaches, introducing beginners and helping improvers enjoy wave riding or take their surfing to the next level.

Course cost includes 1 year Surfing England Surf Coach Membership worth £35

Surf Coaches

o    All coaches operating independently or in registered surf schools must have Surfing England recognised surf coaching awards and current water safety qualifications.

o    Any surf coaches wishing to purchase additional coaches insurance with their membership will need to provide a CRB/DBS   (within the last three years)

o    All coaches must register with Surfing England. Surfing England Surf Coach award costs £35 a year (See below for a link to further details)

Non ISA/Surfing England courses and qualifications

Our recognised qualification for Surf coaching in England is the ISA/Surfing England Surf Coach level 1 award which allows you to seek employment at hundreds of surf schools in England, Great Britain and all other ISA Nations around the world. Any coach wishing to work in England and operate inside the Surfing England coach framework should attend an ISA accredited course. Any coach that operates under a different qualification that wishes to join Surfing England as coach member will be required to complete the ISA Recognised Prior Learning pathway at an approximate cost of £125 (*includes a 1 year ISA and Surfing England coach membership).
