Why Become a Trainer Assessor?

Becoming a TA is a rewarding career pathway for surf coaches who want to take the next step and contribute to the development of the next generation. As a Trainer Assessor, you will use your expertise, experience, and leadership to deliver consistent, high-quality training and assessment across the country.

A More Diverse and Inclusive Future

As part of our commitment to making surf coaching a more diverse and inclusive sector, we strongly encourage applications from women and members of under-represented communities in surfing.
In reviewing delivery from 2024 and 2025, we are also closely mapping regional and local demand. If you have prospective trainees in your area who wish to train at your surf centre in 2026, we’d love to hear from you.

Background: Building the Best Coaching Pathway in Surfing

In 2021, Surfing England undertook an in-depth research project involving over 100 surf schools, coaches, and assessors. The findings set us on a mission to build the strongest coaching development pathway in surfing.

Following this work, we launched our new Surf Instructor Award—piloted in early 2023 and now successfully producing Surfing England–accredited instructors nationwide. Trainer Assessors play a vital role in this pathway, ensuring the highest standards of training and assessment.
