Members for Technical Panel Surf Coach: Progression Award

Job Description – Members for Technical Panel Surf Coach: Progression Award

There has never been a more exciting time to be part of the growth and development of surfing’s National Governing Body as we strive to create a dynamic and forward-thinking organisation with the needs of the surfer and surfing community at the heart of all we do.

We see great coaching as a fundamental building block in the development of surfing, both as a completive and lifestyle sport.  Through a substantial consultation with coaches, coach developers and surf schools we created a new vision for surf coaching in England (See our review here) and we are embarking on the development of a series of Surfing England coaching awards.

As part of this process, Surfing England is delighted to be opening positions for a new Technical Panel in the next phase of our development, of the new series of our Instructor/Coach Qualifications. Previous members can apply.  The aim of this panel is to input into, review and steer the design specifically of the new ‘Surf Coach: Progression’ Award, for coaching of intermediate surfers. The start point of scope of this award sits immediately at the highest skill level of the beginner surfer customer, instructed by a Surfing England Instructor – Recreation. It needs to cater for all levels of surfing customer right up to where we deem the start point for our future ‘performance’ surfing award.

Surfing England is approaching experts to develop this new award, and their work will then be presented to the technical panel through the Surfing England lead coaching & qualifications, Nick Moffatt. The Technical Panel for this award will provide critical peer review, ensuring that we have a robust process, and that we create the very best coaching awards and training.

We are seeking to recruit experienced coaches/trainers with a passion for coach development and for the standards and depth of coaching delivered at our surf schools. Selected members will form the panel joining Surfing England employees Max Palmer and Jack Patching.

Please note:  This is a voluntary role with a time commitment of c.5 days per year which includes technical panel meetings, along with related follow up with the coaching & qualifications lead. Meetings will be held in person at a suitable Surf Centre venue and additional follow up review meetings held online. Travel, overnight and any other reasonable expenses will be paid.
