Following the successful rollout of our Surf Instructor: Recreation award we are excited to move forward with the next item in the pipeline, the Surf Coach: Progression award.
This award will cater to a broad range of ‘intermediate’ surfing customers who are ready to develop the skills necessary to handle the impact zone and paddle out the back in surf up to head high. Surfing England Progression Coaches will be able to provide theoretical and practical coaching, developing surfers’ proficiency on the open face and laying the foundations of good technique to enable ongoing advancement.
We are preparing a technical panel to assist with the development of this new award. The technical panel will critique the work throughout the process, providing valuable constructive feedback and insightful input. They are problem-solving and solutions-focused by nature. These are volunteer positions that offer an opportunity to help shape the industry. The application deadline is October 14th. Please send submissions to nick@surfingengland.org
Training Assessing
New opportunities for ‘Trainer Assessors’ to join our national team of TAs and deliver our Surf Instructor: Recreation award will be shared via our newsletter and posted on the website this autumn, in readiness for training new appointments in March 2025.
Surfing England are keen to ensure good geographical coverage of trainer assessors, enabling trainee surf coaches to access high quality training and assessment in their local area. As part of our push to raise the standard of knowledge and practical skills of new coaches it is only qualified Trainer Assessors that can certify new instructors after a competency-based assessment.
If you would like to register your interest to deliver the Progression Coach award, please email nick@surfingengland.org The Progression Coach award will be delivered in-person through classroom group theory & practical courses followed by assessment. We are currently in the process of securing funding for the awards development and will keep interested parties up to date with progress.
