Surfing England are looking for a passionate and highly motivated ambassador for equality, diversity and inclusion to chair and help develop our new Inclusive Line Ups committee.
Surfing is officially an Olympic sport. The UK is a pioneer in artificial waves with the potential to bring surfing to huge new audiences, domestic participation is over 1m annually, North Devon has been recognised as one of only 11 world surfing reserves and England is leading in areas like surf therapy and adaptive surfing. We have world class talent in a number of disciplines from European Junior champions on short and longboards to some of the world’s very best adaptive surfers. There has never been a more exciting time to be a part of the story of surfing’s development in England.
Across the team at Surfing England there is a deep commitment to ensure surfing grows as a sport and lifestyle that is open and welcoming to all. We know the power of surfing as a tool to help overcome social challenges and barriers and we want to see the line up become a more culturally diverse place, providing a richer surfing experience for everyone.
Recognising we have a small team and limited resources, we need innovative approaches to do this. We want to create the Inclusive Line Ups Committee to bring in new perspectives, different lived experiences and expertise that will help shape our delivery plans and develop new ideas and avenues to engage more people from a wider variety of backgrounds with our amazing sport.
Our panel chair will play a pivotal role in helping to recruit the right mix of people, expertise and experience to the committee and will be a key member of the Surfing England team (of employees, volunteers, surfers) as we create our equality, diversity and inclusion strategy.
