The original surfboard style and the marker of the start of the modern surfing era, longboards still carry that classic style and perhaps best reflect the history of surfing than any other board.
Longboards are typically 9 foot plus with a rounded nose, plenty of width through the board and a wide tail. With plenty of foam and lots of float they are easier to paddle and catch waves on. Whilst relatively easy to get surfing, the longboard still provides a lifetime of challenge to master with a variety of graceful cross steps, turns and of course hang 5 and 10s to perfect.
If you are interested in longboarding and the ongoing progression within competitive longboarding then head to Surfing England accredited club, (link to friend of page about BLU). With 28 years of history, the BLU tour is one of the most prestigious longboarding events on the surfing calendar and continues to be run by surfing legend Robert ‘Minnow’ Green, bringing together surfers competing from the Channel Isles, Wales and Scotland alongside our English loggers.
