“An amazing day to celebrate the hugely successful Junior Surf Series”
The Surfing England Junior Surf Series wrapped up its fourth year in style with a finale event at The Wave, Bristol, bringing together the top under-12 and under-14 surfers from across England for a day of competition, learning and celebration.
As in previous years, the series concluded with an invitational finale for surfers who won — or placed second — in their respective categories across the season. The Wave provided the perfect setting, offering consistent, high-quality conditions and a unique environment for both performance and progression.
Despite a chilly start, the morning delivered blue skies, light winds and excellent waves, creating an ideal backdrop to celebrate the next generation of English surfing talent. Seventeen of the country’s leading junior surfers took part, cheered on by family, coaches and peers, while also following Team England’s progress at the ISA World Junior Championships in Peru.
A key focus of this year’s finale was education, with sessions centred around judging criteria and competitive understanding. Head Judge Ester Spears, who has been officiating at the highest levels for many years, led briefings for surfers and parents alike, offering valuable insight into how heats are judged and how performances are scored.
Following an on-land briefing, surfers took to the pool for an exciting morning of competition before heading back indoors for a judging workshop. Using FlowState analysis, waves from the morning sessions were reviewed, allowing athletes to better understand scoring decisions and performance choices.

Now in its fourth year, the Surfing England Junior Surf Series provides a friendly, entry-level competition pathway for under-12 and under-14 surfers. The series is designed to nurture emerging talent, strengthen club communities and encourage greater participation — particularly among girls — in a fun, supportive and accessible environment.
“A huge thank you goes to our tour sponsors, especially the Boardmasters Foundation and RYD UK, whose support makes this series possible. We’re also incredibly grateful to the surf clubs, parents and guardians — and, of course, to every surfer for their enthusiasm, commitment and smiles throughout the year.”
