Lukas Skinner surfed exceptionally to make the U16 final and got a huge result of a silver medal at the 2023 ISA World Junior Surfing Championships.
Hands together for Team England Junior’s, supported by dryrobe, very own Lukas Skinner taking a historic second place, after winning every heat on his way to the final.
The team, athletes and coaches have shown amazing spirit though the champs, lots of emotion in Brazil and at home as we celebrate this huge result.
Held at Macumba Beach, Rio do Janeiro, and the second time the event has been hosted by Brazil, the contest saw the World’s best junior surfers going for gold in at this prestigious event. This contest has proven a direct pathway to the Olympic Games and we are stunned by how much it looks like we have a future Olympian in the making.
Winning every heat on his way to the final Lukas flew the flag for English surfing in a way that’s never been seen before. The support from across the world was palpable as we willed him on to win. For everyone in England, we’ve got a phenomenal surfer and role model to aspire to.
Ben Powis, Chief Executive of Surfing England, the sport’s National Governing Body, said:
“Lukas has absolutely shone through these championships and shown he fully belongs on surfing’s world stage. We’re so proud of his performance and that of the team who’ve shown amazing spirit and support for each other through every heat. Lukas has truly put English Surfing on the map and done so in the best way with his progressive style in the water, and being a thoroughly likeable and supportive member of the team out the water.”
