Team England medals at ISA World SUP and Paddleboard Championship
Team England, in a historic performance, secured their best-ever placement at a world championship, landing an impressive 6th place overall. The team’s achievement was celebrated with two well-deserved medals in the Technical categories.
Thousands of enthusiastic spectators flocked to the beautiful shores of La Grande Plage in Les Sables d’Olonne, France, on a spectacular Sunday, October 1st, to witness the breathtaking finals and closing ceremony of the highly anticipated 2023 ISA World SUP and Paddleboard Championship. This year’s event proved to be a remarkable success, showcasing the incredible talent and camaraderie within the global stand-up paddleboarding community.
“The competition had a massive turnout due to the place taking in France, which is hugely accessible for many countries. It felt like a proper championship with lots of locals watching the races.” Blue Ewers, shared his thoughts on the event, saying,
Ginnie Betts commended the event’s organization, stating, “The event was really well put together. ISA did an awesome job at advertising the event online and locally, and the infrastructure of the event was top-notch. The whole event was really high profile.”
Andrew Byatt added, “We had a really good team atmosphere, with a full team from England competing. Everyone gelled really well, and our accommodation was incredible for watching the races.”
As the 2023 ISA World SUP and Paddleboard Championship concludes on this high note, the world looks ahead to the upcoming EuroSUP Championship in Peniche, Portugal, just 10 days away. We wish the entire Team England the best of luck, and we eagerly await their remarkable performances in the next competition.
Furthermore, at the close of this year, the world will eagerly anticipate the decision on whether Stand-Up Paddleboarding and Paddleboard will be recognized as an Olympic discipline. This historic possibility has the potential to change the future of these water sports forever, marking a momentous milestone in their history.
