With coronavirus disrupting schedules for sporting events across the globe we’ve been doing all we can to digest the ever-changing Government Guidelines for sport in England, and to investigate how we can deliver some of our Events in Autumn 2020.
We are in contact with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), as well as Councils and landowners as part of these discussions to ensure any events we would run are safe and in compliance with legislation.
2020 Caravan and Motorhome Club English National Surfing Championships
We are doing all we can to find a way to deliver the remaining divisions of the English National Surfing Championships, this including the U12, U14, U16, Shortboard Divisions, and the U18 and Open Longboard Divisions. The event would be scaled down to a single peak event with live scoring and limited entrants, to adhere to social distancing and restrictions on group sizes. Unfortunately, we will not be able to run the Seniors, Masters or Veterans Divisions this year as we must focus on the elite sport side of Team England Juniors and Longboard Athletes.
Surfing England are committed to the development of competitive surfing and it would be fantastic to crown the remainder of the 2020 English Champions in those divisions and we are working as hard as we can to deliver this. We are working with both Cornwall Council events team and the national events team at the Department DCMS as we work through the government’s guidance and the extra conditions Coivd-19 imposed on event organisers. We are not able to confirm a date and location yet, but we are aiming for late September / early October 2020, if we are given permission by DCMS to run.
If there are local lockdowns, or it is perceived unsafe to run, we hold the right to cancel.
2020 Korev Lager English Adaptive Surfing Open
Update: This Event is schedules to run at The Wave, Bristol on Saturday 3rd October. Read more here: https://www.surfingengland.org/2020adaptive
The Adaptive Championships is scheduled to run on 3rd October 2020. We are working on location options and hope to confirm shortly (the date should not change). Entrants may have to be limited if required to adhere to maximum group numbers and social distancing. As above, we have the same challenges as the English Nationals with locations and DCMS approval. The National Adaptive Championships is one of the highlights of the surfing calendar and we are committed to doing all we can to deliver the event and bring the Team England Adaptive surfers and the wider adaptive community together.
As above, if there are reasons out of our control we cannot run, we hold the right to cancel.
2020 English Interclub Surfing Championships
Unfortunately, we will be cancelling the 2020 Interclub Surfing Championships. The spirit of this event is Surf Club’s coming together for comradery and rivalry, and a great social experience alongside the surf competition.
With social distancing measures and group sizes continuing to be limited we will not run the event this year. This is also due to the large amount of event planning and raising of finances that must take place behind doors to deliver a successful, safe, event. Whilst this is disappointing news for our incredible community of Surf Club’s, we will do all we can to bring the event back in 2021!
We will continue to work through protocols and clarify plans and will issue further updates when we have more definite news on how the Autumn is shaping up.
