British Surfing announce Shortboard Selection Policy for 2019 ISA World Surfing Games

British Surfing announce Shortboard Selection Policy for 2019 ISA World Surfing Games

With 2019 set to be a thriving year for surfers all over the world we’ve been stoked to see British Surfing announce their selection policy for the 2019 ISA World Surfing Games. For this year the ISA announced the event will be held 7th – 15th September at Miyazaki, Japan and will be one of the most exciting we’ve seen.

This year a British Team will be representing the 4 federations of England, Channel Islands, Scotland and Wales. The selection policy states that the 2019 British Surfing Championships will determine 2019 positions on the British shortboard team for the ISA World Surfing Games.

To be eligible to compete at the British Surfing Championships, surfers must secure their places by competing in their home nation championships (e.g. The English National Surfing Championships, see here). The top 4 Male and top 4 Female surfers will then go through to compete at the British Surfing Championships held in Jersey, Channel Islands on May 25th & 26th 2019. This is the event where champions will be decided.

The overall male and female British Champions will secure a place on the British Team as will the 2nd place winners (both male and female).

The 3rd spots on the British Team may be either 3rd place at British Championships or Wildcard Entry due to exceptional results in European events/WCT/WQS or another significant International Event. This is under sole discretion of the selection panel for the British Team.

Please head to the British Surfing Team website for the full selection policy details: https://britishsurfingteam.com/British-Team-Selection/Shortboard/

Note: The English National Surfing Championships will run on 4th – 6th May in Perranporth, Cornwall. Entry opens Monday 25th March 5pm and we advise you to enter immediately to secure your place.
