Team England SUP Selection Policy 2018– EuroSUP Championships, Sardinia, September 2nd – 9th
Policy Overview
The England ‘SUP Selection Policy’ has been produced in collaboration with BSUPA and GB SUP Clubs and explains the selection/qualification process for England team selection for the travelling team to the 2018 EuroSUP event, to be held in Sardinia from September 2nd to 9th.
There are the following categories for representation;
- Surf (men’s): 2 athletes
- Surf (women’s): 1 athlete
- Technical Race (men’s): 2 athletes
- Technical Race (women’s): 1 athlete
- Long Distance Race (men’s): 2 athletes
- Long Distance Race (women’s): 1 athlete
Selection Details
Team Selection for the event has been based on the following criteria;
SURF: Based upon the 2017 BSUPA Surf Series standings.
RACE: Based upon the results of the 2018 St.Ives Bay Celtic Cup.
This process was announced on February 1st 2018 by BSUPA.
All athletes must qualify to represent the English team by fulfilling the ‘Eligibility Process’ outlined in the ‘Eligibility Policy’.

- Surf (men’s): 2 athletes
- Matt Argyle (Highest ranked English SUP athlete on the 2017 BSUPA SUP Surf Series)
- Blue Ewer (Second highest ranked English SUP athlete on the 2017 BSUPA SUP Surf Series)
- Surf (women’s): 1 athlete
- Marie Buchanan (Highest ranked English SUP athlete on the 2017 BSUPA SUP Surf Series)
- Technical Race (men’s): 2 athletes
- Ben Pye (First placed English SUP athlete at the 2018 St.Ives Bay Celtic Cup, technical race division)
- Paul Simmons (Second placed English SUP athlete at the 2018 St.Ives Bay Celtic Cup, technical race division)
- Technical Race (women’s): 1 athlete
- Marie Buchanan (First placed English SUP athlete at the 2018 St.Ives Bay Celtic Cup, technical race division)
- Long Distance Race (men’s): 2 athletes
- Paul Simmons (First placed English SUP athlete at the 2018 St.Ives Bay Celtic Cup, distance race division)
- Ben Pye (Second placed English SUP athlete at the 2018 St.Ives Bay Celtic Cup, distance race division)
- Long Distance Race (women’s): 1 athlete

Selection Acceptance
All athletes required to accept their selection in writing to info@surfingengland.org by 9am on Monday 13th August.
In the event that any athlete declines or doesn’t accept their awarded position by 9am on Monday 13th August the next eligible athlete is automatically offered the position.
By accepting the selection the athlete is agreeing to the Surfing England Anti-Doping policy, Eligibility Policy and Contest Participation Agreement.
Expenses & Funding
All athletes are required to fund and organise their attendance at the event. Surfing England and partners will pay for the team entry fees and provide official Team England kit. In addition to the self-financing attendance, if a volunteer manager and/or judge is required, the cost of their attendance must also be met by the team.
Management
Due to the short time frames involved Surfing England recommend that the team/athletes self-manage their attendance. Surfing England will provide remote support and submit the team entry by the European Surfing Federation deadline of August 15th.
The team is required to provide a judge for the event, we now welcome applications to volunteer judge the event – email operations@surfingengland.org by Monday 9am

Wednesday 8th August – Team Announced
Monday 13th August (9am) – Deadline for selection acceptance or decline
Wednesday 15th August – Team entered to the EuroSUP event.
Sunday 2nd September – Predicted team arrival (Sardinia)
Monday 3rd September – Team check in at EuroSUP
Saturday 8th/Sunday 9th September – End of EuroSUP 2018
