After the fun of event #1 at Croyde in June, Rip Curl & Surfing England are excited to bring you the second of two radical Grom Search events for UK Juniors this summer!
Following a great few years of Grom Searching, which has seen UK Grom Ellie Turner earning 2nd place at the World Finals and the likes of Will Bailey challenge Europe’s best on the infamous long lefts of Mundaka, the 2017 Rip Curl Grom Search is in full swing as we approach the second and final event for the UK search.
The event is held at Watergate Bay in Cornwall on Saturday 19th & Sunday 20th of August.
This event gives under 16, 14 and 12 year old boys and girls a chance to compete against each other in a fun and exciting event. In a brilliant step forward by Rip Curl, new to this year, all age categories will be battling for places at the Euro Finals in both boys and girls, a development from the previous years as only under 16’s would reach the Euro final. In addition a wild card will be awarded to the winner of a new online competition rewarding the best trick on video – so get the cameras ready.
To enter please select and purchase ‘tickets’ to your chosen divisions and complete with only the surfers details.
Across the two events surfers receive points for their results in each event, which then count towards a National Grom Search ranking system. Leaders on this ranking after the two events will then qualify for the last event of the series, the Rip Curl Grom Search European Final, to be held “Somewhere” next Autumn – Previous locations for this have include some amazing waves across Cape Verde, Spain and Portugal.
Entry closes on Monday August 14th at 5pm. Entry is based on first come first served and is limited to two categories only per surfer but may be limited to single category entry only if the event is oversubscribed. So, a surfer can enter the under 12 boys and under 14 boys, but if the event is oversubscribed then we may limit the surfer to only entering one of their chosen categories, a refund will be issued for the other if that is the case during the week before the event.
Membership of Surfing England or another home nation federation (Wales, Scotland or Channel Islands) is required to enter. Surfing England membership can be completed online via www.surfingengland.org
