2013 Offsure British Interclub Surf Championships
Its that time again folks, the opportunity to represent the break and beaches that you call home in a fierce battle for surfing glory has come again, The 2013 Offsure British Interclub Surf Championships, 21st & 22nd September at Widemouth Bay, Bude.
In a buck of the tradition, the newly formed Bude Waveriders Surf Club has risen to meet the call for a new location following Croyde’s success last year. The sleeping giant awoke earlier in the year and has teamed up with Surfing GB to bring you an event to remember.
For those unsure of the hype, confused by the excitement or just plain and simply don’t know what it is, this highly anticipated event sees surf clubs from around the UK put forward the local power houses, super frother’s and classic line up comedians from their much loved surf breaks in a battle against others. Clubs can enter as many teams as they like in the Open, Women’s & Junior divisions, the results of which not only inform the category winners but an overall club champion is decided and the bragging rights are distributed very unequally.
Last year saw Croyde Surf Club not only host one hell of an event, but they then went on to keep the title for themselves too. ‘The Interclubs is certainly one of the highlights of the calender with all the fun and banter in and out of the water, plus I am sure there are some scores to be settled from last year and this year we get an away day!!’ said Chairman of Croyde Surf Club, Rob Whitney.
So which club is going to win in 2013?
This year the contest will again be run by Surfing GB with the help of sponsorship from Offsure Surf Insurance and the hosting club of Bude Waveriders. A strong and passionate turn out is expected to enjoy a weekend of surfing, music, beer or a combination of them all.
The events traditional uniqueness will again be guaranteed with a whole host of additional extra’s that include a Surf Simulator, 2 foot stomping social gatherings, volleyball, a hogroast and much more. Team’s are also invited to use the accommodation discount at Adventure International in the centre of Bude with a special rate of £25 pp/pn (also the venue of Saturday night’s party).
