Surfers Against Sewage
Surfers Against Sewage is an environmental charity protecting the UK’s oceans, waves and beaches for all to enjoy safely and sustainably, via community action, campaigning, volunteering, conservation, education and scientific research.
This year, Surfing England is partnering with Surfers Against Sewage for their main mass mobilisation campaign – the Million Mile Clean.
The Million Mile Clean, launched in 2021 is the biggest beach clean campaign and aims at equipping, resourcing and empowering 100,000 volunteers to clean 10 miles of their local blue, green and city space throughout the year, each year.
The Million Mile Clean is an integral part of SAS’ campaign to hold business and government to account for the tide of plastic pollution choking the UK’s coastline. Volunteers of the clean act as citizen scientists, capturing vital evidence on the key polluters to help create a list of the worst offending companies a.k.a. ‘The Dirty Dozen.’
As one of the main Community Partners for the campaign, Surfing England plays an integral part in the success of the campaign by spreading the word with their members, mobilising their community in taking part and getting their clubs involved.
