Surfing England aims to promote safe and successful surf coaching which encourages progression for all levels of ability. It has a register of all surf schools and coaches who meet a set of requirements embracing high standards of operation and safety

The purpose of the English Surf School Scheme is to provide a clear set of rules for the safe and successful management of surfing activity on British beaches. This enables a surf school to comply with current national, regional and local beach, recreational and sport legislation. It gives clear Surfing England guidance for UK schools to organise and manage “best practices” for coaching of surfing that is seen as consistent, coherent and comprehensive across all levels.

As the National Governing Body for Surfing in England, Surfing England issues clear guidance to Local Authorities and Beach Owners that they should only accept surf schools and surf coaches who are registered with the Surfing England.

The overall aim of the scheme is to ensure that all surf school customers receive the highest standard of safety and success in their surfing lessons

The surf schools that are accepted and registered on this scheme are the only schools that can be advertised as an English Surf School and appear as such on the Surfing England website

All English Surf Schools are graded as either: Recreational, Performance, Academy, and Centre of Excellence. and this is dependent upon:

* The qualifications of the coaches employed
* The level of the surf coaching programs offered (i.e. beginners, advanced)
* The physical equipment and practical resources available for customers learning
