The training academy is operated by Barrie Hall (Baz), one of the UK's most experienced and qualified surf coaches and trainers in the business. Baz has been coaching since 1994 , and was the head coach for the BSA (British Surfing Association) for 15 years.
Courses are generally run in Newquay, Cornwall.
ISA/ SGB Level 1 Surf Coach
This is the minimum award requirement and industry standard to work as a surf instructor, in a surf school, surf camp, club, college or similar setting.
The award is aimed at the coaching of beginner- intermediate level surfers and covers a range of modules.
All candidates must also obtain an acceptable International beach lifeguard/ ocean rescue award,. Here in the UK , the recognized lifesaving awards are, RLSS – NBLQ , Royal Life Saving Society- National Beaach Lifeguard Qualification, or SLSGB ( Surf Lifesaving GB, Beach Lifeguard award or Surf coaches lifeguard award
Course Duration = 2 days
Level 1 course costs £275 per candidate, includes course manual and ISA and SGB registration

To obtain the ISA Level 2 Surf Coaching Accreditation, you need to hold the ISA/SGB Level 1 Surf Coaching Accreditation as a pre-requisite, or an equivalent award .ie, BSA/ Surfing GB level 1.
Becoming a Level 2 Coach takes the coach from learn to surf through intermediate surfing , towards advanced level and a greater understanding of competitive surfing. By gaining your Level 2 accreditation it also opens up greater opportunities to become involved in coaching at a Higher Performance level. To obtain this award an individual must adhere to the following accreditation requirements:
In order to gain full accreditation as a Level 2 coach candidates must also obtain a recognized Lifesaving/ ocean rescue award as outlined for level 1, and complete various other post course criteria .

Level 2 course costs £375 per candidate, includes course manual and ISA registration.
