There are 11 million people with a disability in England, that’s 1 in 5 of us living with an impairment. We know the vast majority of disabled people want to be more active and that surfing can offer a unique experience helping support mental and physical well being.
We have an ambition to create and support the creation of adaptive surfing hubs across the county, like the joint Surf South West and The Wave Project initiative in Croyde. For these hubs to offer the very best service to people with disability we need highly experienced and trained coaches.
We are working in partnership with our friends at The Wave Project and with adaptive surfers across the country to develop a new Adaptive Surf Coach award. Designed for existing surf coaches the award and related work experience will give coaches the knowledge and understanding needed to coach adaptive surfers.
The new award will go live in 2024.
Working in Partnership.
