Global Boarders Surf School Manager vacancy
Responsible For: Managing the daily operations and delivery of the surf school
Salary: £28,600 pro rata
Working Hours: 1st April – 27th September 2024
Approximately 9am – 6pm, 5 days a week, including weekends
Hours can often fluctuate due to seasonal demands, and will be discussed in further detail during the interview process
Location: Primarily based at Sunset Surf Café, Gwithian Beach, Hayle, Occasionally needed to go mobile at Fistral Beach, Newquay, and Praa Sands
Outline:
The surf school manager is primarily responsible for the day-to-day organisation and delivery of surf lessons whilst providing great customer service for all clients. The daily focus is to communicate with all clients and to co-ordinate a team of surf coaches so that all lessons are delivered in a safe and enjoyable manner.
Specific Duties:
- Deliver high quality customer care, aiming to exceed their expectations
- To take bookings face to face whilst utilising the online booking system
- Full management of the online booking system
- Alongside the Company Directors, organise and manage staffing for all lessons, hire and large groups to meet the business demands
- To maintain and update the information on the booking system to ensure it reflects the availability of lessons
- To maintain and log all client records, including incident report forms. Clearly record details regarding follow up calls to ensure all enquiries are responded to quickly
- To manage and maintain staffing standards throughout the surf school
- To respond to any emergency incident as required by the Emergency Action Plan
- To tell clients about the wide range of activities the business group offers, and to inform them of discounts and offers where appropriate
- To assist staff members when accessing and using the online booking facility
- To gather client paperwork, and maintain records of activities and analyse any changes in numbers of participants to feedback to Company Directors
- To maintain all surf equipment and first aid kit on site, ensuring that it is well cleaned, stored correctly, and in full operating order to mee the business demands
- To use the operating systems in place, and improve them or create new systems where necessary so that surf lessons and the booking process meet expectations for customers and coaches
- Other duties include those that are deemed suitable for the role and skill set, such as staff training and mentoring
- To hold all staff, including yourself, to the highest of standards to meet the business demands
Person Specification:
Qualifications
- Essential – Minimum Level 1 ISA Surf Cach Award or similar (Surfing England Recreation Award or ASI Surf Coach award SLSGB Beach Lifeguard Award or similar (RLSS equivalent or SLSGB Surf Coach Safety and Rescue Competency)
- Desirable – Level 2 or above ISA Surf Coach Award or similar Safeguarding Award or similar
Experience
- Essential –At least 3 years of experience operating in and around a surf school is essential, either as a surf coach, head coach or school manager.Experience of providing high quality customer service and administrative support.Experience of managing a small team.Understanding how to communicate and reply to customers across a variety of ways e.g., face to face, email, phone, social media.Experience of working within a very busy environment and seasonal business.
- Desirable –Experience of using a computer based online booking system or similar.Experience of selling activities face to face or over the phone.Experience of training and mentoring staff.Experience in working in the outdoor activity industry.
Experience in coaching at a high level e.g., national and/or international surf competitions.
Skills, knowledge and understanding
- Essential –A high level of understanding and knowledge regarding local surf conditions and forecasting.Minimum surfing ability – to be able to paddle out back in chest high surf, surf green waves left and right, and perform basic manoeuvres.A good level of fitness in and out of the water.Effective interpersonal and communication skills.Excellent personal and time management skills and the ability to work under pressure.
Confidence to work alone and make quick decisions when necessary.
- Desirable –An understanding of safety procedures in the beach and sea environment.An ability to build and maintain relationships with key customers.Experience in leading groups in the outdoor environment.Understanding the importance of customer feedback to meet the business demands.
