Volunteer Awards return for 2023!

We are thankful to be supported by a whole network of incredible people who make up the mix of our surfing community. It is important to us to recognise the people who go above and beyond for the sport we all love, that unites us. The awards launched in 2022 and were a huge success – we’re now back for 2023 and looking for nominations!

For 2023, three awards will launch:

  • Surf Club Volunteer of the Year
  • Team England Volunteer of the Year
  • Waves of Change Award

Read more about the individual awards and how you can nominate someone you think really deserves recognition! We will look to announce these awards at the English Interclub Surfing Championships, due to take place 7th – 8th October at The Wave, Bristol.

Surf Club Volunteer of the Year

This award will recognise an outstanding person who is a member/committee of an Affiliated Surf Club who is making a real impact to surfing within their club and local community.

We are looking for that ultimate club legend that is making a difference in one or more of the following areas:

  • Going above and beyond to support and grow the surf club
  • Supporting more junior surfing,
  • Championing equality, diversity, and inclusion in surfing.
  • Delivering performance training
  • Driving participation in surfing
  • Raising awareness of good environmental practises
  • Making an impact to the wider surfing community
  • Other incredible work that is making a positive impact to the surf club

How this will be awarded: This award will be a nominations process and chosen by a panel of Surfing England office team and board of directors (the board will take the majority).

How to submit a nomination:

  • Your name
  • Your email address and phone number
  • Nominees name
  • Nominees email address and phone number (if you have it)
  • Nominees’ role within the club environment
  • In a maximum of 250 words describe why the person deserves this award

The due date for nominations is Thursday 28th September at 10am.

Team England Volunteer of the Year

This award will recognise the incredible people who go above and beyond in supporting and the delivery of our Team England Programs (all disciplines).

All volunteers in the programs will be considered. This person may be a manager, coach, support staff, specialist, and linked to the following criteria:

  • Supporting the organising of team programs
  • Going above and beyond to support, organise and deliver training camps
  • Commitment and delivery of results at international competitions
  • Delivering exceptional workshops, e.g., nutrition, strength and conditioning, psychology, etc.
  • Making an exceptional impact to athlete performance

How this will be awarded: Surfing England panel and board of directors (who will have majority)

Waves of Change Award

The development of surfing England to where our organisation is now & our future direction is an incredible journey. This award will recognise a person who demonstrates longstanding commitment to the development of English surfing. The person must have a connection to Surfing England, for example through our events program, volunteer board/panels, accredited surf schools, programs we support, etc.

We are looking for a person that meets one or more of the below criteria:

  • A person who is making substantial and long-term positive impact to English surfing
  • Can be wider impact on English surfers and their route to surf at British level
  • Can be grassroots to performance-based surfing
  • Can be environmental, equality diversity and inclusion, or social impact programs
  • Can be events orientated
  • Can cover any discipline of surfing recognised (e.g., bodysurf, SUP, etc).

How this will be awarded: This award will be a nominations process and chosen by a panel of Surfing England office team and board of directors (the board will take the majority).
