Design of the Surfing England Surf Instructor Awards

We are seeking to appoint a contractor(s) to write the technical content for the new Surfing England ‘level 1’ Surf Instructor – Recreation Award.

Context:

Surfing England has put coaching at the heart of it’s strategy to support the growth and evolution of the sport we love. Whether we are looking at participation, using surfing as tool for social good and sharing the stoke of catching a wave for the first time or our elite athletes progressing through the QS and beyond, it must all be underpinned by great coaching.

To have great coaches, we need great awards, great coach training and development pathways that equip coaches with both technical competency and ‘how to coach’; teaching and delivery skills. Following a full review of surf coaching and the creation of a new vision for coach development, Surfing England has committed to the creation of a new 3 tier surf instructor/coach awards system and a host of ‘bolt on’ training and awards. The 2022/23 Coaching plan maps out the work now and further plans in place for this year and the first part of next year.

Objective: To produce the world’s best and most inclusive Surf Instructor Award. We want to create an award that reflects the needs identified in our surf coaching review, better utilises digital platforms and gives a clear pathway for progression.

This brief is focused on creating the technical content for the ‘Level One’ award, which will be the first in a 3 part series of coaching awards that will provide the back bone against which other bolt on awards and training can be positioned.

(Level One): Surf Instructor – Recreation

(Level Two): Surf Coach – Progression

(Level Three): Surf Coach – Performance
