Important Announcement: 2018 English Interclubs Cancellation
It is with the deepest disappointment that we must announce the cancellation of this weekend’s 2018 English Interclub Surfing Championships. The current forecast has worsened in recent hours and the outlook for the weekend isn’t providing contest officials with the minimum conditions required to guarantee the completion of the event.
With over 150 surfers from around the country ready to compete we are heartbroken to be forced to make this decision. Contest officials have looked at all options and even by halving the competition and just competing on Saturday the likelihood that the absolute minimum 8 hours of competition required cannot be achieved with the current forecast – We have confirmed this through close communications with the lead forecast team at Magicseaweed and thank them for their support in our decision. The extreme weather conditions has also called in to question the safety of any temporary event site with 40+mph gusts forecast and weather warnings issued for the weekend meaning fundamental parts of the event site may not be possible.
This is not a decision we have taken lightly and thank all for their assistance and importantly the clubs and surfers for their patience. In today’s consultation phase with all club leads the majority of entered clubs have stated they would be unable to field a full team for next weeks postponement date and therefore diluting the event and its main purpose, resulting in its cancellation. We are devastated not to bringing our amazing club community and friends together this weekend – full refunds will be provided to all clubs.
Best regards, Surfing England Events Team & Staff.
