Applications open for Adaptive surfers to represent Team England
Surfing England are excited to welcome applications for Surfers to represent Team England at the forthcoming 2017 Stance ISA World Adaptive Surfing Championship to be held in La Jolla, California from November 30th– December 3rd 2017.
The applications now open in the days before England’s first Adaptive Surfing Open, which is scheduled for Saturday 16th September at Watergate Bay, details on this event can be found: HERE.
The third annual Stance ISA World Adaptive Surfing Championship will gather the world’s Adaptive Surfing community together for a 4-day World Championship Competition, Adaptive Surfing Clinic, and an opportunity to play an integral part in the future development of this discipline in the ISA Adaptive Surfing Symposium.
Surfing England are wishing to enter a full team of 8 within the following classifications;
- 2 athletes – AS-1: Surfers who ride waves in a standing or kneeling position
◦These two athletes for the AS-1 Sport Class includes both the AS-1UL + AS-1LL sub-classes which will compete together
- 2 athletes – AS-2: Surfers who ride waves in a standing or kneeling position
- 1 athlete – AS-3: Surfers who ride waves in a seated position
- 1 athlete – AS-4: Surfers who ride waves in a prone position
- 1 athlete – AS-5: Surfers who ride waves in a non-standing position and need assistance to paddle into waves and while in the water
- 1 athlete – AS-VI: Surfers who have a visual impairment ◦The AS-VI Sport Class includes the AS-VIB1, AS-VIB2, and AS-VIB3 sub-classes which will compete together

Both male and female athletes are invited to apply. Female only divisions may be added to the event if the ISA decide to do so based on the level of interest for this.

SO, how do I apply to be a Team England Adaptive Surfer?
Surfers should submit the following by Monday 2nd October
– A written personal statement no longer than 300 words which includes detail on your surfing ability (compulsory)
– Identification of your classification
– List of any competition results (if applicable)
– Photo evidence (compulsory)
– Video evidence (if highly encouraged)
This should be emailed to adaptiveteam@surfingengland.org titled ‘YOUR NAME’ APPLICATION FOR TEAM ENGLAND ADAPTIVE
Surfers attending the 2017 English Adaptive Surfing Open should also notify adaptiveteam@surfingengland.org of their interest in representing Team England and arrange to meet the volunteer management for the team at the event.
Following the 2nd of October Surfing England will review the applications and inform surfers of the selection by 10th October.

This is a self-funded and self-equipped entry and attendance – volunteer Surfing England management will attend the event to manage the team. Please ensure you are financially able to participate before applying – any queries on this please email adaptiveteam@surfingengland.org. Sponsorship may be raised individually and as a team, Surfing England are raising sponsorship for the event and any sponsorship raised will offset the cost of attendance for the athletes. All team members will be provided with official Team England kit.
